Nominated by one of our Villagers, we are pleased to share that Village Baptist Church received the 2010 City of Beaverton Human Rights Advisory Commission Diversity Award. Pastor John Johnson, Pastor Mauricio Rivas, Pastor Joe Kim and a contingent of other Villagers were present to accept the award on behalf of the church.
The award is given on an annual basis to, “an individual, community organization, business organization and/or non-profit group who has promoted appreciation for diversity, human rights and cultural understanding in the City of Beaverton and our local community.”
The award and recognition are a great honor, but what’s even better is the opportunity to share the story of Village with an even broader audience including those who were at Beaverton City Council Meeting on January 4, 2011 when the award was presented. We pray this will also encourage interest in other churches in our area working to be multi-ethnic.
Village has been on the path of transforming from a predominantly white congregation to a multi-ethinc church since the mid ’90s. We hope this will be an encouragement to all Villagers that when diverse cultures come together around the Gospel, the community notices.
