| Even in a crowded room, it’s possible to feel lonely. No one understand you – the real you. It gets tiring to try to act as if your fine, when really, inside your heart is crying out for someone to love you. In today’s very “social” world one can feel more alone than ever. We’re created for relationships and when we’re feeling alone, that feeling can be overwhelming.
There is someone who loves you totally and completely. God Word is filled with promises of his great love and desire to be reconciled to us. |

What does the Bible say?
“For I know the plans I have for you,” says the Lord. “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope. In those days when you pray, I will listen. If you look for me wholeheartedly, you will find me.” (Jeremiah 29:11-13)
Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you. And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age. (Matthew 28:20)
And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God’s love. Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow—not even the powers of hell can separate us from God’s love. No power in the sky above or in the earth below—indeed, nothing in all creation will ever be able to separate us from the love of God that is revealed in Christ Jesus our Lord. (Romans 8:38-39)
For his unfailing love toward those who fear him is as great as the height of the heavens above the earth. (Psalm 103:11)
However, those the Father has given me will come to me, and I will never reject them.
I pray that from his glorious, unlimited resources he will empower you with inner strength through his Spirit. Then Christ will make his home in your hearts as you trust in him. Your roots will grow down into God’s love and keep you strong. And may you have the power to understand, as all God’s people should, how wide, how long, how high, and how deep his love is. May you experience the love of Christ, though it is too great to understand fully. Then you will be made complete with all the fullness of life and power that comes from God. (Ephesians 3:16-19)
I can never escape from your Spirit! I can never get away from your presence! If I go up to heaven, you are there; if I go down to the grave, you are there.
If I ride the wings of the morning, if I dwell by the farthest oceans, even there your hand will guide me, and your strength will support me. I could ask the darkness to hide me
and the light around me to become night— but even in darkness I cannot hide from you.
To you the night shines as bright as day. Darkness and light are the same to you. You made all the delicate, inner parts of my body and knit me together in my mother’s womb. Thank you for making me so wonderfully complex! Your workmanship is marvelous—how well I know it. (Psalm 139:7-14)
For the Lord your God is living among you. He is a mighty savior. He will take delight in you with gladness. With his love, he will calm all your fears. He will rejoice over you with joyful songs. (Zephaniah 3:17)
What’s more, I am with you, and I will protect you wherever you go. One day I will bring you back to this land. I will not leave you until I have finished giving you everything I have promised you. (Genesis 28:15)
I prayed to the Lord, and he answered me. He freed me from all my fears. Those who look to him for help will be radiant with joy; no shadow of shame will darken their faces. In my desperation I prayed, and the Lord listened; he saved me from all my troubles. For the angel of the Lord is a guard; he surrounds and defends all who fear him. (Psalm 34:4-7)
What is the price of five sparrows—two copper coins? Yet God does not forget a single one of them. And the very hairs on your head are all numbered. So don’t be afraid; you are more valuable to God than a whole flock of sparrows. (Luke 12:6-7)
Some ideas of things to do when you’re feeling lonely:
- Go to church. A church family can be an incredible encouragement and support especially when you are feeling alone. We are all created for relationships.
- Pray – God is “online” 24/7. You can always talk to him.
- Take a class or join a club. Interests are more fun when you share them with others.
- Volunteer. It’s a great way to meet people and helping others can often help us put our own troubles in perspective.
- Take the initiative. Call a friend or family member and plan something. Often it’s the thought of not having someone to do something with, that makes us feel lonely. Plans on our calendar can give us something to look forward to.
