India dominates South Asia and the Indian Ocean.  Nearly 16% of the world's population is Indian, living on 2.4% of the world's land surface.  In the year 2020, India will become the most populous country in the world with nearly 1.3 billion people.  A 1991 survey identified 4,635 communities or people groups.  In all, there are 1,652 languages spoken in India.
