The home I grew up in was Christian, but less than ideal. Church became my anchor for truth and personal worth. I accepted Christ and was baptized at 10 years old. I majored in philosophy at Wheaton College in the Chicago area and met and married Barbie in Southern California, where I attended Talbot Seminary while working for Youth For Christ. We then came to Portland, finished at Western Seminary, and began working with the youth at Village Baptist in 1970.
My four years on the VBC staff were memorable years, but some unresolved doubts about the Christian faith eventually made ministry difficult. What was expected to take a few months turned into years, but they were years of invaluable lessons in learning to trust the Lord.
After retiring, we worked in India for several years, both with VBC and IDEAS. I am now focused on Village University, Life Group, and the Elder Board. Barbie is working with the missions office and the Well. What an extension of God’s grace to give both of us such a wonderful church in which to grow up!
