Estate Planning - Never More Important Than Now
As the US, and indeed the world, finds itself in a slumping economy few of us could have imagined just one year ago, it's no secret that we're all likely feeling the effects. Our ability to earn a living (or live off our savings), pay bills, make charitable contributions, etc. all feels compromised.
We watch to see if our government will make wise choices with the capital they have to spend - hoping that it will change the economic tide and begin to re-instill confidence in our economy. Even though our country has not charted this course in nearly a lifetime, we're left simply to hope that our elected officials will navigate these waters well.
So do we resign ourselves to a "wait and see" approach, polarized in other areas of our lives until the economy turns around? I hope not. For instance, the importance of estate planning has never been more important than now. Whether the political winds below left or right...or the economy shrinks or swells...we ALL must remember that developing a good, God-honoring estate plan is important.
You may not leave for heaven for many years, or it might be next week. You may have a large estate, or the economic environment when you go to heaven may cause your estate to be relatively small. Who knows! But one thing is for sure...we ALL must take the time to plan well.
If you've been thinking for some time that it's high time to get your estate planning affairs in order, Village has resource material and a well-known professional in our area named Gene Christian, who can help you. The Elder Board has contracted his services, which are free to members and friends of Village. He does not sell investment or insurance products, or his time. Maybe you've already met with Gene and you just need to get things finished up.
Whatever the case, I want to encourage you to take control of this area of your life (an area where you can still have control over what happens) and plan well! God will be honored and you will sleep better knowing you've developed a well-thought-through plan that will take care of your children, grandchildren, and the ministry organizations you care about.
If you would like to make an appointment to meet with Gene, please contact Krista McGuire in the church office.
